Qualification & Marking

Due to examination security, all CGA-PAKISTAN® students must write examinations in Pakistan and the approved exam center abroad.  All written examinations are the property of CGA-PAKISTAN®. Neither the original nor a photocopy of a marked exam will be returned or made available for viewing to the student.
Examination Development and Marking

CGA Professional examinations have two specific purposes:

  • For each individual course, to establish that a student has sufficient subject matter knowledge to continue in the program and to take courses for which that knowledge may be a prerequisite.
  • For the program as a whole, to establish that a student has a sufficient body of knowledge required for certification as a CGA Professional.

To effectively accomplish this, there are three main stages in the examination process:

  1. Exam development and review
  2. Individual exam marking
  3. A final mark review

The CGA-PAKISTAN® education committee begins the process by selecting examiners. Each examiner is a highly qualified academic from the university community. In some cases the examiner is also the course author. Examiners prepare a practice examination and the exams for the current academic year.

Once an examiner has prepared the complete exam set and the corresponding suggested solutions, they are reviewed by two separate committees administered by regional associations. The primary review committee consists of three members who write each exam under examination conditions. The exam and suggested solutions are then carefully reviewed for form, relationship to course material, accuracy and clarity. The supplementary review committee carries out an identical review process, and their review comments are submitted to the primary review committee. The primary review committee is responsible for resolving any difficulties directly with the examiner.

After you have written an examination, your paper is sent to the examiner for marking. If a large number of exams must be marked, the examiner selects and supervises a marking team. When a marking team is required, one marker marks the same question on each paper. This process is designed to ensure fairness and uniformity in the marking. After all the papers have been marked, the examiner reviews all examination papers in which the final course mark is in the range of 50 to 60. Each failed paper is rechecked for accuracy.

The final stage in the process is the exam results review by the CGA-PAKISTAN® education committee. CGA-PAKISTAN® forwards examination-related correspondence received from students and instructors to CGA-PAKISTAN®. If any problems have become apparent at the exam session or in the marking process, the examiner is consulted and adjustments may be made.

To ensure your feedback is included, send your concerns in writing to the attention of the manager of program delivery as soon as possible after the exam. Be as specific as possible with regards to your problem.
Qualification:

You must determine if you qualify for the exam; CGA-PAKISTAN® will not notify you. Failure to qualify for a course examination will be deemed equivalent to having failed the particular course and a did not qualify (DNQ) will be awarded. DNQ status counts as an exam attempt for that particular course. Exams written by unqualified students will not be marked. Failure to qualify for one subject exam does not prejudice your right to sit for an exam in a subject for which you have qualified.  There is no exam qualification requirement for courses in the foundation and advanced studies.

You must write exams in all courses for which you are qualified in the exam session immediately following course completion, unless you request an exam deferral. Exams must be written on the date and time scheduled. Students who qualify to write an exam and do not write (DNW) will be charged with an examination attempt; and will be required to re-enroll in the course, submitting the assignments for examination qualification.
